The Lake hosts a wide variety of water fowl and nightingales join the butterflies and dragonflies in the summer. Look out for lapwings, little ring plovers, great crested grebes.

Meet in Mapledurham Playing Fields car park off the Upper Woodcote Road (Nearest Post Code RG4 7BX). This walk traverses some of the Mapledurham estate’s finest scenery including views over Reading to the south and out towards the Chilterns to the north. The route picks up the Warren before rising steeply up to Pond Lane at the highest point. After descending towards Mapledurham village there is a second steep section (much shorter this time) returning via Jackson’s Lane to the starting point.
